Of course RIM is not the only company other than Apple to engineer such a device but since Blackberry is a major player in the world of mobile devices it would be crazy if I didn’t mention the Playbook.

RIM’s CEO Mike Lazaridis claims the Playbook will be the ‘first professional tablet’, sporting a 7-inch capacitive multitouch display that’s capable of 1024 x 600 resolution. In the heart of it will be a 1GHZ dual-core CPU accompanied by 1GB of RAM with a 3 megapixel front facing camera with a 5 megapixel camera on the rear which is capable of 1080P HD video recording. I’m not too sure if this will steal a lot of customers who are already on the Apple bandwagon but it’s certainly an alternative. If this is the geared towards “professional” users then it’s a totally different device for the business man on the go rather than a more casual iPad user who is more in favor of games. Nevertheless, the Apple iPad is a heavy hitter. The screen Apple uses is the highly acclaimed IPS technology display. Lets see what RIM decides for their finished product. Time will tell.
